my son is going beneath anesthesia for some dental work he wishes. The told me they would simply extract a tooth if it is abscessed or beyond repair. If a tooth is abscessed are you not supposed to be on antibiotics first beforehand it is extracted. My dentist at the University Hospital stated that it be better to extract the tooth next but that he didnt believe any of my toddlers be abscessed anyway

Firstly as a dentist, essentially I will not extract an abscessed tooth.Penecillin antibiotics for 5-7 days are usually prescribed primarily to clear up this bacterial infection.
Why? Because local anasthesia is not fully functional when injected into infected tissue.
Also because of unease of spread of infection by disrupting a localised infected nouns.
Your dentist should x beam the nouns to do away with the suggestion of infection.
However beside 'babe-in-arms' teeth the root structure is extremely shallow so the extraction would not be invasive as such.
These are toddler teeth I presume as your son is a toddler?
You individually can probably estimate if he have an abscess..
Is the cheek red, thaw out, swollen..or any of these?
Has he a confusion?
Is he across the world unwell?
Has he severe anguish?
Without seeing the child I couldnt read out but if you are unsatisfied ask for an x streak.
