I want to lose some of belly round - any planning?

I'm 18, 5'8", and 138 lbs. I know im not fat, but I want to lose some of my belly plump within a month or so. what would some apt regimens be? I have never really dieted or worked out up to that time, but there's a gym on campus so I might as well. I hear I should try lots of jump rope, but is near any strict things I can do?
