My sisters hubby just have a lung transplant approx. 10 days, ago. He had a scarce condition known as BOOP which cause your lungs to turn fibrous.
Apparently, the new lungs are working fine....but the passageways, etc.. that attach them are crumbling and collapsing due to the advanced disease at the time of surgery.
Now, they speak the are going to have to do a second transplant and he is once again on the loaf list for organs.
Is this something truthfully common surrounded by the transplant world? I mean....I guess, I'm trying to evaluate his chances for survival.
I am extremely worried about him and my sister, too. They are at the Cleveland Clinic, presently. Please pray for them, too.
TY in mortgage....for any answers.
Answers: I had a single lung transplant almost 2 years ago. They do do re-transplants but it is not exceedingly common. It is also severely uncommon that equal transplant center would do the 2nd transplant. most people own to go to a different center to capture the 2nd transplant. However, as far as survival goes. It would first depend on how soon he get the organs. Also if he has have time to recover from the first surgery. I would vote that the survival (mortality rates) are a little worse for re-transplant. Just because the body have gone through a lot beside the first transplant. However, I am friends with someone who have had 2 double lung transplants and a kidney transplant and he is doing great. it a short time ago depends on the person and how hastily they can get the organs. I would approaching to talk to this personage if he needs any support. ashley.l.tollett(a)vanderbilt.edu
As a surgical tech, I've never see anyone have the opportunity for a second transplant. However, never say aloud never. Keep in mind that simply because you are at the top of the transplant list, doesn't parsimonious you're next within line. There are factor involved, like blood typing and the patient's current condition. (just to entitle a few)
Your brother-in-law and sister are in my prayers.
God Bless
