Tiny 5"2" age 55 requests colonoscopy. Has fright of mortal "put sleepy" next to the knock out anesthesia. Options?

I had a kidney stone one time and they give me a relaxer and I swear, all it did be let me consistency it all but be powerless to complain or speak up. Like I was a zombied out. It be horrible. Then, when it was over, instead of resting as I be supposed to - I was illogically walking up and down our driveway for hours, my body needed to 'work the poisons out.' I called the anestheologist and he thought I be a nutcase and said that all this be impossible. I do have a total terror of being knock out and out of control - have this fear forever, I even have natural childbirth both times due to my concern. (Which went fine.) So.... what do I do more or less the colonoscopy? I seem to enjoy symptoms of diverticulitis and take a stool softener/colon cleanser and that help alleviate symptoms, but if I quit, the symptoms return immediately. Can't I purely live this way and not do a colonoscopy? I spoke to my doctor and he said you really own to be knocked out, that you don't want to be awake. Thanks surrounded by advance.

Answers:    I put relatives to sleep for colonoscopies every Monday, and all sorts of other things the rest of the week.

The recoil you had sounds similar to a paradoxical reaction to Versed (midazolam). It's not super adjectives, but it's a reaction that we know almost, so I don't know what your anesthesiologist was on just about. He sounds like a bit of a bump. I apologize on behalf of the profession!

Anyway, who is going to sedate you?

If it's an anesthesiologist, gain copies of the anesthesia record (it will enjoy something that looks like graph tabloid with a bunch of grades on it) and show that to them ahead of time so that they can figure out what cause your problems. There are some drugs that are more likely than others to receive people nutty (ketamine is one). They might be capable of sedate you near drugs less probable to affect you in that style.

If it's the gastroenterologist or his/her nurses, you might want to get someone else involved surrounded by the sedation. They can do low-risk sedation OK, but I think you're not within that category.

You can also have the procedure done short sedation. It's uncomfortable, but won't slaughter you. People with diverticulosis are VERY sensitive surrounded by the affected nouns, though. Even under an IV nonspecific anesthetic, they tend to squirm when the scope touches their tics.

If you hold had sedation that DIDN'T generate you nutty, let the doctor know what DID work. It's different for different ancestors. (I don't do well near opiates, others don't do well near benzos)

I haven't had a colonoscopy but, but did have three kids beside no drugs. I don't think that skinny margin can compare to a baby's head.

If you be MY patient, I'd suggest using nil but propofol. You'd be completely out, but the drug goes away tremendously quickly, and most culture do extremely well near it. It should be given only by an anesthesiologist or CRNA, though, as too much will raison d`¨ētre you to stop breathing. (It's a rare Monday when at most minuscule one patient doesn't ask if they can rob some of that drug - the propofol - home with them! Good sleep, wake up up feeling great.)

Best of luck to you.
Is isn't hurting at all. The prep is the worse by far. I've have at least 8 past its sell-by date them. I had cancer of the bowel ,so they hold pretty good view on me now.Talk to your doctor and clear him see your fear and create sure he knows you're rugged to knoch out. Be up front with him and don't leave your job the office until he understand. There's new prep immediately ,but I've always have the gallon jug of stuff. If you should procure that one ,just form sure that you get it as cold as possible. If you follow the directions exactly you will not receive sick. The first couple of times I just looked-for to get it over near and drank more at one time and more often than ordered to, I get sicker than a dog. But, after that I followed the doctors orders and did great on it. So, no situation what, follow the directions, they do help. Good Luck and I'll utter a prayer for you.
