I am pregnant and spoilt my 1 hour glucose theory test. My OB sent me to the hospital for a supposed 3 hour audition. It took 6 hours for the try-out to be complete. Is this common for it to thieve so long? My boss doesnt believe that I be really at the hospital for that amount of time.

Answers:
The most adjectives glucose tolerance tryout is the oral glucose tolerance trial (OGTT). You can not devour or drink anything after midnight formerly the try-out. For the check, you will be asked to drink a juice containing a unmistaken amount of glucose. Your blood will be taken formerly you do this, and again every 30 to 60 minutes after you drink the solution. The testing take up to 3 hours.
Longer test own be used for an assortment of other purposes, such as detecting reactive hypoglycemia or defining subsets of hypothalamic chubbiness. Insulin level are sometimes measured to detect insulin resistance or negative amount.
No it should not pinch 6 hours. I would detail your doc subsequent time you see them. The proper proceeder is to drink the 100g sugar drink or what ever they might donate you. And, draw your blood ever hour for the subsequent three hours. If it Takes 6 hours something is wrong. Call the lab you go to and gossip to a representative. Some one F* up.
It should not enjoy took 6 hours. Im a phlebotomist and I diary and do 3 hour GTT's adjectives the time. The phlebotomist should own drawn your blood, made sure your sugar wasn't elevated since giving you the 100g glucola drink. Then stuck you once an hour on the hour until your 3 hours be up. After that afterwards your adjectives done. Some places collect urine specimens though out the GTT also (where I work doesn't) You should own individual be stuck a total of 4 times (Fasting,1hour, 2hour, 3hour) Sounds close to someone messed up, you inevitability to agree to your doctor know what take place.
