Basically from what I hold learned over the yrs. is that the body looks at the gut as a foreign body thus attacking it. sort of resembling an autoimmune disorder but it's not contagious like AIDS through sharing needles or fooling around.
There are newer treatments used to go and get things under control close to Remicade, Humira, Entocort, 6MP, and Imuran.
Seriously, check out the CCFA site. It is updated weekly and run by folks who have IBD and GI physicians doing research surrounded by finding the cause and cure for it.
