Answers:    Stys are cause by the development of infection surrounded by a cyst that forms at the base of an eyelash. The initial inflamed lump may point and eventually discharge pus. Bathing the nouns in melt dilute salt marine helps to hasten the process. Your GP may suggest antibiotics any orally or as liniment or drops into the eye. But there can be a problem next to this treatment, as the infection may settle leaving a evident lump (a meibomian cyst*), that may re-infect or just remain as an unsightly lump. For this use sometimes antibiotics may not be used.
*A Meibomian cyst – meibomian gland lipogranuloma – chalazion - is a cyst of the little glands called Meibomian glands that are located within the eyelids and make a lubricant they discharge through their tiny opening in the edges of the lid. The lubricant is a fatty substance called sebum all your own of sebaceous glands. They are also known as the palpebral glands, tarsal glands, or tarsoconjunctival glands. Although self-conscious, meibomian cysts are not dangerous; they will usually resolve near hot bathing and topical antibiotic ointments such as fuscidic tart or chlortetracycline. Only if there is a residual rock-hard lump in the lid after weeks of treatment, or if the cyst is enormously large, will surgery be required. Then, the cyst can be empty by incising and curetting (scraping) it under local anaesthetic beside drops, and sometimes an injection into the skin of the eyelid.
