Bacterial meningitis is much more severe, and have a better rate of complications, including annihilation. Persons exposed to bacterial meningitis are given an antibiotic to prevent this disease. Antibiotics are not efficient against virus, so individuals exposed to children near viral meningitis will not be offered one. There is no inoculation available nonetheless against viral meningitis. :)
Antibiotics, according to the infecting organism. Close contacts are usually given rifampicin for prevention. For treatment, ceftriaxone is usually given.
