Answers: I had a severely extensive case of double pneumonia this bygone December and I was contained by the hospital for 9 days. I had tried 3 different courses of antibiotics that have no effect at all, and I be getting worse by the day. I be in ICU for 24 hours or so, and later moved to an area call the 'step down unit' which is a small step down from ICU. I was at hand for 4 days and then moved for my later 4 days to a regular hospital room. I was passion noticeably better after roughly speaking 4 days and stopped using the oxegen, but I was kept within the hospital for another 5 days because there be no oral antibiotic that they could send me home next to, since all the other ones one-time to work. I feel similar to death go entering the hospital and felt MUCH better when disappearing. It was the best piece I could do as I am sure it will be for your friend. When she gets out she will perceive weak and underneath the weather for many weeks and still enjoy a bad cough. especially since she have it in both lungs.
Well it sort of depends on a few things.... Most commonly she will need to spend up to 4 days within the ICU and then they move her to a regular room on the medical floor. She is most feasible recieving IV antibiotics and those are stronger than the ones that you take within pill form. She will also probably need to be on oxygen and until she can hold her oxygen saturation up they will keep her contained by the hospital. I imagine every hours of daylight she's going to be having some blood work drawn - they are looking to see if her white blood cell count go down to see if the antibiotics are working. She will also most likely take a chest xray daily. The hope is for the infultration that is within her lungs to decrease visually on the xray.
So it sort of depends on how long it take for her body to respond to antibiotics... she is probably very shaky and is having trouble breathing on her own. That's why she's within the ICU. I would guess she could be in the hospital up to a couple weeks but that's solely if she doesn't respond right away to treatment... they will try very unyielding to get her home as soon as possible.
They will most probable send her home on antibiotics too... take home sure if you go and call in her in the hospital you check to see if within are boxes of masks outside her room... it's really impressive for you to wear one if there are... keep it from spreading
I hope your friend feels better soon!
