Night cough remedy for acute infectious bronchitis?

I've had acute bacterial bronchitis for over a week presently. Started antibiotics two days ago after seeing a nurse practitioner. The case is greatly open-and-shut, so I'm not looking for any advice re: the bronchitis itself.

My problem is the cough. During the morning it eases bad, but at night it attacks me approaching a monster. In some cases the spasms are so bad I can't control my breathing; I almost call 911 last dark. The following drugs have be COMPLETELY INEFFECTIVE: Albuterol, benzonatate, dextromethorphan, guaifenesin. The only two proven remedies own been intense steam (e.g. hot bath) and daylight (go figure).

Is near ANYTHING that can control a bronchitis night cough? And why the heck is it so much worse at hours of darkness?

Answers:    Get yourself a humidifier or if you have radiators put bowls chock-full with hose down on them to evaporate. Try to sleep in a somewhat sitting positions beside several pillow under your upper body. If it get really bad travel into the bathroom, close the door and turn on the hot shower until the bathroom is all steamed up. This will comfort you breathe easier.
Mix some hot tap wet with some honey and drink it up, it not just will ease the cough, but help you fall backbone asleep. For me the water and honey works better than any cough pills, unless it's something with codein.

Feel better!!
Cough is due to an irritation within you throat. Albuterol, benzonatate, and such are broncho dilators... meaning they help out to ease the swelling of aveoli contained by your lungs. It gets worse overnight because of the heat of the air, the position where on earth you sleep and the fact that you probably snore and sleep near your mouth open. Even if that's not the suitcase, start by trying home remedies like tea and honey and anything source that provides you a protective coating over your throat (lozenges, mint candy, etc). On the other hand, dark cough medicines shouldn't affect your current treatment and you should be capable of get nouns for your cough with them. I would use it if available.
