Answers: yea doctors dont give anti biotics for colds anymore even beside fevers. i go last year near flu symptoms and they just give me meds to treat it no antibiotics. and i had a disorientation the same as you son
what help me was tylenol and when that didnt work for the frenzy... i kept eating pure fruit frozen pops it kept me hydrated and cooled down.

Give him some paracetamol (acetaminophen if you are surrounded by the USA).
Keep him comfortable.
Give him some fluids - ice block or jelly - or syringe river into his mouth.
How old is your son (and how much does he weigh)?
Did the doctor read aloud anything other than "he have a cold"?
If he gets worse - cart him to an emergency room.
take him to a different doctor for a second inference
