Briefly, though, this is a tumor nouns used commonly in breast cancer to monitor response to analysis after it has spread or metastasized. Women who hold been treated beside curative intent and who have never experienced duplication do not need this testing. It is neither sufficiently specific nor sensitive to be used as a screening test for these women to detect hasty recurrence.
In my practice, I use these test really only for women who join the following criteria:
1) Most importantly, they produce the protein or have an elevated height; a normal smooth is useless.
2) They have disease which is difficult to monitor near conventional tests or difficult to arbiter response due to sites of involvement; for example, it can be difficult to judge overhaul in bone scan for women with bone-only disease, as these scan frequently always stay phenomenal with one and only minor changes contained by the intensity of the "hot spots."
In other words, if I have disease which I can confidently follow, such as skin involvement or a large smoothly "x-rayable" mass, I don't do these tests- they add little extra information and are not free.
As for remission, if disease progression along beside elevated CA 15-3 can be turned into disease disappearance AND normalization of CA 15-3, then yes surrounded by that instance they can corroborate remission. By itself though the number is not so helpful. Every year I draw from a patient or two who have a tumor marker drawn as a "screening" tool inappropriately (but beside good intentions) and it comes fund positive or high. Search as we can we can find no evidence of cancer , so some associates can just own higher than conventional levels and still be average. Others have extensive cancer everywhere, and there level are zero.
God bless, best wishes
