As everyone know, atheroscleropic plaque contains cholesterol, so this must propose that cholesterol cause atherosclerosis, and therefor heart disease.

I'm not sure I follow your convoluted logic. Just because plaque contains cholesterol, doesn't surely draw one to the conclusion that cholesterol cause heart disease. In reality, it's far more feasible that homocysteine is the catalyst. Many ancestors next to "high" cholesterol live long and prosperous lives. Doctors are the ones who believe cholesterol is the slaughterer, not me.
