my 4-year old daughter have been coughing and have a runny nose for the week and i be giving her Tylenol. the cough seemed to stop but yesterday past bed she started coughing again. my husband took her to the doctor today and he diagnosed her with asthma. Doctor said she have only 65% of oxygen and give her breathing treatment. after prescribed Albuterol every 4 hours and Pulmicort twice a day. I am frightened by all that and I don't believe she have asthma. so i called another doctor - Pediatric Pulmonologyst and made an appointment but the appointment due is solitary in 3 days and I presently I just quality frustrated - can anyone share their experience or give an suggestion? if she had individual 65% of oxygen, does it necessarily means she have asthma? she is very involved and never seems to struggle to own an air...
Answers: My son be diagnosed with "mild" asthma at age 3, and I be always skeptical of this. It started next to some type of viral illness (fever and vomiting the darkness before) followed by increased respirations the next morning. I took him to the ER where on earth an alert triage nurse noticed retractions (using addition muscles to breathe). A chest x-ray came backbone normal. Nevertheless, he be diagnosed with pneumonia and admit for 24 hours. He received nebulizer treatments every 4 hours, prescribed antibiotics, and discharged. He soon had a follow-up appt. beside his pediatrician who insisted he had asthma, not pneumonia, and loaded us up next to Xopenex and Pulmicort per Nebulizer along with oral steroids and I don't remember what else. It seem excessive to me, not to mention that he violently resisted the nebulizer treatments (tears, nouns, and threatening to throw up every time.) I followed the doctor's regimen for a period of months and within time weaned him off of adjectives of it myself. My son is 8 now and is fine. Having said that, I do exceptionally much recommend that you get the assessment of your pulmonologist at his upcoming appointment. Incidentally, my son did not cooperate with his pulmonary function interview and I do not believe the results were valid.
