Topamax experiences--tiredness, etc?

Hi, I have simply been prescribed Topamax for infrequent migraines because I cannot cart the meds like Imitrex (previous blood clotting so the neurologist think they are too risky). I have be prescribed 25mg and told to take it at hours of darkness. I am concerned that it will make me excessively sleepy because I am also on on a daily basis Klonopin for anxiety, and it causes drowsiness. I really don't own any more options for my migraines bar avoiding triggers, which helps greatly, but I still get a few headache a year and they knock me out of commission for about 2 to 3 days. I own to go to the ER and bring back medication, but as I stated, the meds that work really well for migraines are rotten limits to me. I know everyone is different and will act in response to meds differently, but I would like to hear experiences next to Topamax. Also, did anyone have a cutback in appetite that sometimes comes next to Topamax? Thanks for your responses!

Answers:    Hi, I am also a problematic migraineur.Like you, I have tried abundant other options, but it didn't work.

I am currently on Topamax 200mg nightly and propranolol 40mg 3 times on a daily basis.

I take topamax at hours of darkness so that I would not be sleepy in the time and the propranolol is a beta blocker- it also helps lessen the frequency of my migraine.

Anyway, for Topamax, I did lose some weight, experience substance loss, have some word finding difficulty, aroma change and rather memory problem. Yes I did have a disappear in appetite but that be only makeshift.

You could have other option too. Keep a headache diary Before you have your migraine, you would own a prodrome. You might experience a sudden craving for certain type of food, or enjoy mood swings. If you take medication like metoclopramide during your prodrome, you might lessen or even prevent a migraine.

However, you can also try stale label use of botox, which I did and it help, except that the treatment was to expensive that I have to discontinue.

You can try beta blockers like propranolol or tricyclics approaching amitriptyline. Those also prove to help others who enjoy migraines.

Most importantly speak to your doctor. Discuss with s/he what could be the best treatment for you. I be fortunate to have a style and understanding neurologist who be patient ample to discuss all my option.

Hope it helps.
I own been taking Depekote for the ending year and have greatly reduced my migraines. They be constant, with trips to the er once every 4-6 weeks.
