I'm a recovering alcoholic, and I sponsor someone who is an addiction counselor and know several others contained by AA who are. This topic is a big one among them. All of them work for rehab centers where on earth they are told NOT to disclose. I know the reasoning at the back this surrounded by "standard" counseling but in addiction work I guess the counselors should disclose their history. I know my own rehab counselor did (this be 9 years ago), and I be glad that he did. Addicts other own so much shame and hopelessness, and conjecture they are so impossible and that everyone is different from them--it help to know that the professional you're working beside have be within your shoes and understand addiction from personal experience.

but i own friends who are recovering addict and one of them works at the alchahol and drug nucleus as a councellor
it would benefit you for 2 reasons
one your clients will enjoy expectation contained by you
and two you own shown that near is hope for them
please check your work policy document and speak to your employer as ive never hear pf not self competent to enlighten your clients as this benefits them a large amount and have no disadvantages to you
